Biography

Darlene “D.J.” June Hancock, 58, of Peoria, passed away at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.

Darlene was born on February 6, 1947 in Peoria, daughter of Richard and Jacqueline “Jackie” Royse Pretty.  She married James L. Hancock on March 23, 1993 at their home in Peoria.  He survives.

She is also survived by her father, of Peoria; daughter, Tammy (Randy) Moore of Peoria; son, Jonathan Lulay, of East Peoria; daughter, Jacqueline (Scott) Novicki, of North Aurora, IL; daughter, Michelle (Jason) Davis of Yorkville, IL; daughter, Stephanie (Tom) Watson, of Joliet; step-son, Jake Hancock, of Peoria; aunt & uncle, June & Kenny Rebensal, of Ft. Myers, FL; and eight grandchildren.  Her mother preceded her in death.

Darlene was the bar manager at the VFW Post #2602 in Peoria Heights.  She was a member of the Hanna City Sportsmen’s Club, AMVETS Post #64 Ladies Auxiliary and an associate member of the Navy/Marine Club in Peoria Heights.

Darlene loveded gardening, cooking and dancing - especially dancing to Patsy Cline, with her husband, Jim.  She enjoyed fishing in Wisconsin, the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs, collecting shells - and friends.  She was a "social butterfly".  Her family and making others happy were the things most important to her.  Her family is proud of her for being a great mother, grandmother and wife.

A Celebration of Darlene’s life began at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2005 at the VFW Post #2602 in Peoria Heights.  Darlene's husband, daughters and several friends spoke to the full VFW hall - reflecting on the gift of Darlene's life.  Everyone enjoyed food, drink and fellowship throughout the afternoon and early evening.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tazewell Animal Protection Society (TAPS).
